A Guide to the CS2 Community in Ottawa

Ottawa’s Counter-Strike (CS2) scene has seen its ups and downs, but interest in the game is picking up again. From student clubs and LAN centers to online groups and local organizations, players across the city have been organizing events, running pugs, and finding ways to stay connected, with momentum starting to build more consistently.
This guide covers what’s active and what could use a boost across the ecosystem, from Discord servers and school teams to Ottawa-based organizations, past tournaments, and community hubs. Whether you’re new to the city, a longtime player, or just looking for people to run CS2 with, this is a solid place to start.
School Communities
Algonquin College Esports (AC Esports)
Algonquin’s esports scene has had bursts of activity over the years, including occasional LANs (pre-COVID) and some Discord discussion around Counter-Strike. However, the server is currently quite inactive, with little CS2 engagement, and there’s no active varsity team.
That said, Algonquin has fielded CS teams in the past. We’re including them here to encourage current or incoming students to get involved and help bring back interest.
Carleton University Esports (CU Esports)
CU Esports is one of Ottawa’s most active student gaming communities, with varsity teams across multiple game titles: including a CS2 roster and, at times, a junior/secondary team.
Carleton also hosts FrostFire, the city’s largest annual LAN tournament. The 2025 edition featured a $1,000 CS2 prize pool, alongside tournaments in other major game titles. CU Esports has also helped organize inter-school events like Maple Mayhem (2025), which brought together Ontario students for an online CS2/Valorant/OW2 tournament with a $1,500 prize pool.
Their Discord is consistently active around CS2 with community nights like 10-mans, pugs, and general CS2 talk. Like most student-led orgs, activity can vary semester to semester, but Carleton remains one of the most reliable communities for local CS2 players.
University of Ottawa Esports (uOttawa Esports)
uOttawa Esports has seen a resurgence in its Counter-Strike scene, with an active varsity roster now representing the university once again. Alongside official competition, the community has been running regular in-house 10-man matches, helping to rebuild engagement and create a more consistent space for players.
Activity around CS2 has noticeably improved, with stronger participation and a growing level of play within the university. While still developing, the current momentum suggests a promising direction for Counter-Strike at uOttawa, both competitively and at the community level.
LAN Centers & Organizations
Click Esports
Click Esports operates Ottawa’s only dedicated LAN center, offering pay-per-hour and day-pass access to gaming PCs and consoles. Food and drinks are also available on-site.
Their most notable CS event was the Capital Click 2019 Circuit, which featured a $2,000 prize pool. Since then, activity in their Discord has been minimal, the CS channel is still labeled as “CS:GO,” and engagement is low.
While overall community engagement on Discord and social media has been quiet for the past few years, the venue recently underwent renovations. With those now complete, there’s a chance we could see new events and renewed activity in the near future.
Strife
Strife was an Ottawa-based esports org that ran a Counter-Strike team from 2021 to early 2024. Over the years, they fielded a mix of Canadian and American players. Their most notable achievements include winning Fragadelphia 16 and taking first place in the IESF World Esports Championship 2024: Canadian Qualifier, where the team went on to represent Canada internationally.
In their final months, Strife transitioned to an all–French Canadian roster, which later transferred to Homyno in June 2024. Since then, the org has gone quiet, with no active CS roster, and inactive Discord, socials, and website.
While unlikely to return, they’ll always hold a place in Ottawa’s CS history, and if they ever make a comeback, we’ll be watching.
Storm Surge
Storm Surge is an Ottawa-founded esports organization, established in December 2025, competing in various North American leagues and events, including ESEA Main, Crossfire, and others.
The organization’s owner, Deso1ation, is from Ottawa and plays as the team’s AWP and IGL. Storm Surge remains active in ongoing league play, continuing to build experience and establish itself within the NA Counter-Strike scene.
ThirdSite
We started ThirdSite to create a central space for all CS2 fans in Ottawa, no matter where you’re coming from.
Our mission is simple: to create regular and engaging events for Ottawa’s Counter-Strike fans, fostering a vibrant local gaming community. Whether you’re a student, grad, or just someone who loves CS, ThirdSite is a place to meet others, stay involved, and grow the scene.
We’ve hosted in-person watch parties for CS events, and we’re actively working to make our Discord more active with regular games, discussions, and eventually local LANs. If you’re in Ottawa and love Counter-Strike, we want you here.
We hope that by highlighting other communities in this post, we can help connect the dots and work together to make Counter-Strike in Ottawa as strong and as successful as possible.
Help Grow the Scene
We’ll keep this guide updated as we come across more Ottawa-based Counter-Strike communities, events, and teams. If you run a server, organize tournaments, or know of local activity we should include, let us know.
Submit updates via Contact@thirdsite.org or Discord DM to eviljonbob.
Conclusion
Ottawa’s Counter-Strike scene is still taking shape, but the interest is out there. Between student groups, local venues, and independent efforts, there’s plenty of potential to build something stronger.
Whether you’re looking to play, meet others, or help organize, we hope this guide points you in the right direction.
