The name ThirdSite was inspired by the concept of the “Third Place.” A Third Place is a social environment that exists outside the two primary places in most people’s lives, home (the first place) and work (the second place). Third Places, which can include local cafés, libraries, or community centers, are essential for fostering human connection, building relationships, and creating a sense of belonging. They are where you meet familiar faces and have the chance to connect with new ones.
For us, the term also resonates with the world of Counter-Strike (CS). In Counter-Strike, gameplay revolves around two bomb sites: A and B. ThirdSite is our take on creating an unofficial third site, dedicated not to in-game objectives but to the community of Counter-Strike fans. This dual meaning is reflected in our logo, which incorporates a “C” to highlight the Counter-Strike connection. I know pretty clever right?
At its core, ThirdSite strives to be more than just a name. We aim to be the third place for Counter-Strike fans, a hub where you can hang out with your friends, connect with fellow enthusiasts, and turn strangers into teammates and new friends. ThirdSite is Counter-Strike’s Third Place.
Founded in 2024, ThirdSite is a Canadian Counter-Strike (CS) community organization based in Ottawa, Canada. What started with watch parties and community events has grown into a platform focused on supporting and highlighting Canadian Counter-Strike.
From organizing events and watch parties to covering roster news, tournaments, and community stories, ThirdSite aims to bring together fans, players, teams, and organizers from across the Canadian CS scene. Our goal is to create a central place where the community can stay connected and follow everything happening in Canadian Counter-Strike.
To support and grow the Canadian Counter-Strike scene by sharing news, highlighting players and teams, organizing community events, and creating opportunities for fans to connect both online and in person.
To become the go-to destination for Canadian Counter-Strike, bringing together news, events, roster moves, community stories, and competitive CS from across Canada.
ThirdSite was founded by Jack Nicol (In-game eviljonbob)
I started playing Counter-Strike in 2015 and quickly got hooked. I knew early on that I wanted to find a way to contribute to the North American CS scene.
Attending my first Tier 1 event, the Copenhagen Major, I saw firsthand how powerful it is when fans come together in person. That event solidified my determination to bring a similar sense of excitement and community back to Ottawa, even if on a much smaller scale.
I created ThirdSite with a simple goal: to give Counter-Strike fans in Ottawa a place to call their own. A space to watch matches together, cheer for our favourite teams, and connect with people who share the same passion for the game.
For me, Counter-Strike has always been about more than just playing. It’s about community. My hope is that ThirdSite becomes more than just watch parties. Where people can meet others, make friends, and find teammates for life.
Hope to see you at one of our events.
