Ottawa-Based Storm Surge Esports Club Gearing Up for FRAG 20
While keeping an eye on Canadian Counter-Strike, we recently came across another Ottawa-based organization worth highlighting: Storm Surge Esports Club.
Storm Surge is currently competing in ESEA Main, holding a 4–4 record at the time of writing. The organization’s owner, Deso1ation, who also serves as the team’s AWP and IGL, is from Ottawa.
Alongside him, the team’s other Canadian player is c0nsy (Toronto), with the rest of the roster rounded out by three American players.
Much of Storm Surge’s current preparation is centered around FRAG 20 in Las Vegas (April 24), which will be the organization’s first LAN event. In an interview with True North Studio, Deso1ation spoke about the team’s goals heading into the event:
“My goal is by April, we should have everything ironed out that we make a top 16 finish.”
It’s a huge step and a defining moment for the team, making their current season especially interesting to follow as they gear up for the trip.
Storm Surge’s ESEA matches are currently being broadcast by True North Studio, making it easy to follow the team’s progress, watch their games, and get familiar with the roster ahead of Frag 20.
Looking Ahead: Storm Surge’s Long-Term Vision
In the same interview, Deso1ation also spoke about the future of the organization and how he views Storm Surge as a longer-term project:
“This is going probably going to be like a multi-season project for sure.”
He went on to outline his broader vision for building Storm Surge into a sustainable organization:
“My future and my vision for this organization is that we’re able to get enough traction where we have enough eyeballs, we have sponsors, we have income coming in through affiliates and merchandise coming soon. Las Vegas is a really big expense for everyone, but if we can get the organization to the point where we can cover expenses to at least travel to these places… my goal for Storm Surge is really to just be self-sustaining and to compete in as many tournaments as possible to help grow the scene as much as possible.”
Introducing our rebrand... Storm Surge Esports Club! We finalized our brand as we finalized our roster for S56 and beyond. With league being VRS ranked we are looking to make waves in the scene and compete in as many events as we can!
