About Counter-Strike 2 and the StarLadder Budapest Major

Counter-Strike 2 (CS2 or just CS) is a tactical first-person shooter (FPS). Two teams of five players face off in fast-paced, round-based matches that combine strategy, precision, and teamwork. It’s one of the world’s longest-running and most influential competitive video games, with a global player base in the tens of millions.

The StarLadder Budapest Major, organized by the Ukrainian esports company StarLadder, represents the highest level of play in Counter-Strike’s global esports circuit. A ‘Major’ is like the game’s equivalent of hockey’s Stanley Cup. In total, 32 of the world’s best teams will compete for a $1,250,000 USD prize pool, broadcast live from Budapest, Hungary, to audiences worldwide.

Watch Party Featured Activity

During intermission, attendees can take part in a Counter-Strike-themed trivia game, featuring questions about the game’s esports history. Our sponsors will supply prizes for the top three winners.

About the Watch Party

“We’re proud to be working with so many Counter-Strike organizations supporting this event,” said Jack Nicol (alias, ‘eviljonbob’), Founder of ThirdSite. “We started running these events because there’s a real lack of esports gatherings for Counter-Strike, not just in Canada but across much of North America. For players in Ottawa, major events are often hours away by plane, leaving few opportunities to connect locally.

These watch parties give fans the chance to come together more often, meet others in the area who share the same passion for Counter-Strike, and experience the excitement of watching the game live with others. Our goal is to keep growing Ottawa’s local scene and continue creating regular events that bring players, students, and fans together. Even if you’re new to the game or haven’t played before, this is the perfect way to join the community and see what makes Counter-Strike so special.”

Each ThirdSite event has grown in attendance, drawing students, casual players, and esports fans alike. This December’s watch party promises to be ThirdSite’s biggest event yet, celebrating the StarLadder Budapest Major with incredible sponsor support, exciting prizes, and a lively atmosphere inside Algonquin College’s Observatory.
