Canadian Armed Forces Esports Enters CS2

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF Esports) has officially entered CS2, unveiling its inaugural roster on July 9. The team will represent the CAF at the International Defence Esports Games 2026 (IDEG26) later this fall.

CS2 joins Rocket League, iRacing, and VelociDrone as one of the titles the CAF will compete in at IDEG26.

The roster features members from across all three branches of the Canadian Armed Forces:

  • Canada S1 Julius “JOOLIS” Fan – Royal Canadian Navy (Victoria, BC)
  • Canada Avr Pedro “ZUUUKY” Duarte – Royal Canadian Air Force (Ottawa, ON)
  • Canada Cpl Benjamin “DANGER” White – Royal Canadian Air Force (Winnipeg, MB)
  • Canada Cpl Andrew “PCFUL” Lau – Canadian Army (Comox, BC)
  • Canada Maj Johnny “CANCEL” Sheinfeld – Canadian Army (Ottawa, ON)

Alternate

  • Canada Cpl Cameron “MCDAVID” Hammond – Canadian Army (Petawawa, ON)

Coach

  • Canada Cpl Brendan “LIBRIM” Jatsura – Canadian Army (Gagetown, NB)

Members of CAF Esports are active-serving Canadian Armed Forces personnel from both Regular or Reserves. They continue serving in their military roles while representing the CAF in esports competition.

About IDEG26

Having already secured qualification, the team will compete at IDEG26 alongside military teams from more than 40 allied nations.

The inaugural event will take place October 9–11, 2026, at the National Gaming and Esports Arena in Sunderland, United Kingdom. Organized by British Esports in partnership with the UK Ministry of Defence through its Cyber and Specialist Operations Command (CSOC), IDEG26 will feature military teams from around the world competing across multiple esports titles.

Beyond IDEG26

While the team is preparing for IDEG26, its future beyond the event remains uncertain. ThirdSite was told that the CAF Esports program is still evaluating its long-term plans and has not yet decided whether it will maintain a CS2 roster after the tournament. The decision will depend in part on whether the International Defence Esports Games returns in future years and whether CS2 remains one of the titles.

ThirdSite also learned that while the players are permitted to compete together in other tournaments, they cannot compete under the CAF Esports name in non-military tournaments that offer prize money.
